Coffee in the fresh and bright Culinary Boutique

So we decided to duck off sans kids for a coffee the other day.  We ventured not far from our home to try the beautiful looking Culinary Boutique on Beach Road, Jumeriah One, Dubai.  I had always thought this café would be a kid free zone but was pleasantly surprised to find it had a kids menu and classes for the vertically challenged at their cooking school.  So I was really asking myself why we hadn’t stopped in before because this café just feels right!  In my future renovated kitchen I want to include some of this place, that is for sure.

The ceiling treatment with wavy fins is so simple (although I am sure would have been a challenge for the designer and cabinetmaker who made it happen).  It makes the downstairs inviting and organic which softens the very linear nature of the rest of the fitout.  The bulbs above the coffee and cake servery dance along with the ceiling and start to provide the nod to the eclectic way that the space has been decorated without being over done.

The use of different patterns in the tiles (there was not a surface I did not love and think would look great in my future kitchen) was offset by the timber and black marble counter.  The use of glazed square tiles in two tones of blue is easy to replicate at home and a nice change from subway tiles.  Then came the very fashionable rose gold/copper touches, very cleverly done with the accessories.  These metallics are everywhere at the moment and deservedly so – the give a lovely warmth to the space as the light plays across them – kind of like daytime candlelight.

I just happened upon a lot of rose gold/copper accessories when I was in Galeries Lafayette and have shared some of my favourites here for you to bring this look into your own home.

I haven’t even mentioned the coffee and cake – great coffee (and being New Zealanders we are fussy) and the cakes – Crème Brulee and Date Cake – were so delicious that we were about half way through before I thought to take a photo to share with you.  But don’t worry we will be returning to this café soon – they have another level for me to explore and a whole menu for us to try.  Might even take the kids.
